December wrap up and January to be read.

I hope you all had a fantastic Christmas and a belated happy new year!

So this is going to be a ridiculously late December wrap up combined with my January to be read list. I intended on writing these posts a few weeks but Christmas, new year and birthday celebrations took control of my life. To write them as two separate posts at this time of month it seemed too daunting with the amount of time I have left today and the reviews I have to write so joining them together seemed like a great idea.

I didn’t read as much as I intended last month. December was extremely busy for me. At the beginning of the month my mum, sister and nan-nan came to visit me and it was the first time in absolutely ages since I’d seen my family. I didn’t get the chance to do any reading or writing over that weekend.

Then it was suddenly Christmas and new year and with cooking a Christmas dinner for the boyf and I this year I couldn’t sit and read all day. There was also visits to see our friends, shopping to do and copious amounts of work to complete. Although I didn’t get half as much reading done as I would have liked, I did make a small dent on my to read pile.

Throughout December I read Victoria Aveyard’s Red Queen, Amie Kaufman’s Illuminae and Alexandra Bracken’s Passenger. All the reviews for these books have already been written and can be found on my blog. It’s no secret that I didn’t enjoy reading Illuminae, but I’m extremely excited to read Aveyard’s Glass Sword and Bracken’s Wayfarer throughout January.

During December I also tried to read Rachel Hawkins’ Rebel Belle. I abandoned this book a few chapters in as I just couldn’t get into it. I don’t know if it was me going into this book with a lack of patience or if it was the writing style that had started to irritate me. There is a small chance I will pick it back up and give it another chance some time during the new year. We will have to wait and see what other books I find along the way.

I started reading Dicken’s Oliver Twist quite a while ago (by quite a while I mean months ago) It was a reread for me and I was too busy to complete it the second time around. After watching the movie at the beginning of December I had an urge to complete the book and after getting bored and irritated of Rebel Belle I had some free time. There is nothing better than rereading a book and finding hidden messages that have been missed the first time around.

Two books I intended to read during December were Leigh Bardugo’s Six of Crows and Aveyard’s Glass Sword. I’m currently reading Glass Sword and after recently finished Passanger the sequel has taken now top spot on my to be read list. Pushing Six of Crows back a little.

This being said here is my January to be read list.

Victoria Aveyard – Glass Sword.
The second instalment of the Red Queen series. I’m super excited to finally get to read this book. Furthermore, it will be completed with plenty of time to spare to wait for the third instalment.

Alexandra Bracken – Wayfarer
Yet another second instalment, this book is following the time travelling tale Passanger. It’s definetly no Outlander but I’m all kinds of excited to read this book!

Sarah Maas – A court of Thorns and Roses
This will be a new series for me, I know that the third instalment is going to be released in Spring. (May, I think?) My goal is to have caught up with the series by the release date so I can read along at the same time. I’ve heard there is a Beauty and the Beast thing going on and that the first book is not as good as the second. I just hope that it is good enough to keep me enthralled.

Nicola Yoon – The Sun Is Also a Star
A lot of my friends have raved about this book saying that it was a great read. I couldn’t resist picking it up for myself when I was shopping over the weekend.

Nicola Yoon – Everything Everything
I’ve heard mixed reviews for this particular book. I really wanted to give it a go and it has been on my shelf for several months. Especially with The Sun is also a Star in my current to read pile I thought I should give this one a go too.

Gina Ciocca – Last Years Mistake
I have had this book on my bookshelf for a while. When I was organising my bookshelves for more space last weekend I found the book and realised I had yet to read it. I threw it onto my to read pile and I’m determined to complete it by the end of the month.

My fingers and toes are crossed that this month is more productive than December. It’s always tough for me to keep up with my reading at the end and beginning of the year. With Christmas and new year and then my birthday following straight after I always have plans that keep me busy.

I cannot wait to get tucked into January’s reads and I’m hoping you will all help by giving me some book recommendations for the months of February and March. If you know of any books I need to read this year please do let me know. Whether it’s a new series, or a stand alone.
